USCIS Freezes Humanitarian Parole: Is Your Case on Hold?

If you came to the U.S. under a humanitarian parole program, you may be wondering what’s happening with your case. Earlier this year, USCIS froze applications from parolees, leaving many in limbo. A federal court has now stepped in—but the situation is still shifting. At N400 Harbor Immigration Law, we’re staying alert to guide you through these changes.

What Happened and Where Things Stand

In February 2025, USCIS paused immigration benefit applications for people paroled into the U.S. under programs like:

  • Uniting for Ukraine (U4U)
  • The CHNV Program (Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, Venezuelans)
  • Family Reunification Parole (FRP)

This freeze applied to pending applications for work permits, asylum, TPS, and more. On May 28, 2025, a federal court ordered USCIS to resume processing these cases. As of June 9, 2025, most frozen applications are moving forward again.

But here’s what you need to know:

  • Pending Cases: If your application was on hold, USCIS should now be reviewing it. Watch your USCIS account for updates.
  • New Parole Requests: New applications under U4U, CHNV, or FRP are still not being accepted as of July 2025.
  • CHNV Parolees: DHS began sending termination notices on June 12, 2025. If you lose parole status, your work permit could also be revoked.

What You Can Do Right Now

  • Check Your Status: Log into your USCIS account often for updates.
  • For CHNV Parolees: Seek legal advice right away if you received a termination notice.
  • Explore Options: You may qualify for asylum, TPS, family-based petitions, or other pathways.
